Product image alt text: examples for different views

A product gallery should help a shopper inspect the item. Treat each image as a different view of the product rather than repeating the product title across every photograph.

Identify what each view contributes

A front view establishes the overall appearance. A close-up may show a fastening, seam, texture, or control. A scale photograph may compare the item with a familiar object. Write the description around the detail that distinguishes that view.

Keep variant information consistent with the product record. If the catalog calls a color forest green, verify that this image belongs to that variant before using the name. Similar-looking photos are an easy source of mismatched metadata.

Keep claims out of visual descriptions

A photograph generally cannot prove durability, sustainability, comfort, or performance. Describe confirmed product details only when they help communicate the image, and keep broader claims in the appropriate product copy.

Do not guess exact dimensions from a photo. If the image contains a measurement diagram, check the labels against the specification and provide the important information in accessible page text as well.

Review a complete gallery together

Read the descriptions in the same order as the published gallery. Check for repeated wording and missing distinctions. If two photographs communicate the same thing, consider whether the gallery needs both.

PixelRank can draft names and descriptions using your product context. Review its output against variant records and apply the final alt text in your storefront editor; downloading a renamed image alone does not set the storefront’s alt attribute.
