How the photo renamer works

1. Add your photos. Drag in JPG, PNG, or WebP files up to 5 MB each. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded to your desktop.
2. Tell it the setting. A short line of context — the industry, the property, the product line — is optional but changes the wording noticeably.
3. Check and save. Read the proposed filename and alt text, adjust anything inaccurate, and download.

Content beats metadata for finding things later

Photo organisers usually sort on EXIF: date, camera body, lens, sometimes GPS. That is genuinely useful for a photographer reconstructing a shoot, and nearly useless for anyone trying to find the picture of the blue chair.

Naming from content means the filename answers the question you will actually ask. You search "pendant light" and the file surfaces, in your operating system, in your CMS media library, and in any tool that indexes filenames.

What it will and will not say about a photo

The model describes what is visible: subjects, setting, materials, colours, composition, and legible text. It writes in plain English and avoids stacking keywords, because a filename crammed with terms reads badly to people and is not a ranking trick.

It stops short of claims a photograph cannot support. It will not name a brand it cannot read, state a price, assert a location, or identify a person. If your photo needs that detail in the name, put it in the context field and review the result before you publish.

Alt text comes out of the same pass

Renaming and describing are the same act of looking, so PixelRank does both at once. Alongside the filename you get alt text written for a screen reader, plus a title and a longer description you can paste into a caption or a product field.

Alt text is where the accessibility value sits, and it is the part most often left blank. Having a draft in front of you — one you can correct in a few seconds — is the difference between shipping it and skipping it.

Quality is preserved unless you ask otherwise

A renamer that silently recompresses your photos is doing damage you cannot undo. PixelRank defaults to handing back the exact file you uploaded, byte for byte, with a new name.

If you want a smaller file for the web there is an optional WebP export capped at 1920 pixels on the long side. Business plans add a full-resolution lossless PNG. You choose; the default never degrades anything.

Limits worth knowing before you start

• No account needed to try. Run 3 images a day signed out and see the real filename, alt text and description before deciding anything.
• A free account adds downloads, CSV export and saved results, and covers 10 images per calendar month in batches of up to 10. Pro is 500 per month and Business is 2,000, both in batches of up to 50. No card at any point on Free.
• Renaming a download does not change the alt text on your website. You add that in your CMS, or export the CSV and hand it to whoever does.

Photo renamer FAQ

Can AI really tell what is in my photos?

It describes what is visibly present with good accuracy on ordinary subjects — furniture, food, rooms, products, landscapes, people in general terms. It is weaker on specialised identification such as exact species, model numbers, or brands, which is why every result is shown for review.

Does it work on photos from my phone?

Yes, once they are JPG, PNG, or WebP. iPhone HEIC files need converting first, which the Photos app does automatically when you export or share as JPEG.

Are my photos kept private?

Images are stored privately against your account and processed by our analysis engine. They are never sold and are never used to train models. Our privacy policy sets out exactly who processes what.

Does renaming reduce photo quality?

No. The default download is the exact file you uploaded. Compression only happens if you deliberately choose the WebP export option.

Can I rename a whole shoot at once?

Batches are up to 10 images on Free and up to 50 on paid plans, processed one after another so a single failure never takes the batch down.
